Easter Sunday is considered one of the most important days on the Christian calendar … and for good reasons. The claim about the birth, life, and death of Jesus Christ is validated in the resurrection, which is the basis for every believer’s hope of salvation and eternal life. As the Apostle Paul so clearly wrote: “if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17).
We believe that the resurrection is theologically sound and practically relevant. The power of the resurrection transformed so many lives during the days following that first, miraculous, Easter event. We thank God that the resurrection continues to impact our lives today as we strive to love God, pray for our enemies, overcome temptation, forgive those who have hurt us, and help those in need. Simply put, we have the power to change our immediate circumstances and make a difference in the lives of others.
So, during this season of new beginnings, let us remember that Christ has already conquered death and the grave. “Where, O death, is your sting? Where, O grave, is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55). Resurrection Sunday brings the assurance that our loving and merciful God continues to extend grace in the midst of our brokenness before a Sovereign Lord.
